Futile Horn12.23.2003 - 1:21 am (say, where did St. Valentine go?) Gah. About two weeks ago, I came down with a fever, and when that started to go away, I got a sore throat and inflamed tonsils. It kept getting worse, so I went to the doctor and got some antibiotics, and now instead of one painfully huge goo-covered foul-smelling tonsil, I’ve two. Today I went to see the ENT guy (no, not like the tree), he ordered some blood work done, so I should have the results of that tomorrow. Although I still have to take pain killers three times a day to be an even remotely productively human being, I was feeling slightly better today. My throat is looking as nasty as ever, and the space through which I eat/speak/breath is still getting smaller, but I may feel a mite better. Of course, I am probably just telling myself that, because the idea I am just getting steadily worse is appealing in no way. I did some online research on it, and I think tonsillitis is really supposed to start getting better by now regardless if it is caused by bacteria or a virus, unless perhaps if you have mono. I… don’t think I have mono, and the doctor doesn’t seem to think it’s likely, but I believe I’ve been tested for mono. It just really sucks not knowing what it is you have or why you aren’t getting any better. And the specter of winding up in the hospital with no insurance is… pretty frightening actually. My musical project is as result suspended indefinitely, which is depressing. I’ve been practicing and I’ve learned a few new tricks, but I haven’t the stamina to record for more than, I dunno, 45 minutes at a time, which isn’t nearly enough to get anything done. I can’t go out, I can’t talk, I can’t eat enough to keep my strength up, I can do very much of the things I need or want to do. And I think whatever foul shit I’ve got growing in the back of my throat has begun to rot my teeth. I also haven’t bought any gifts for my family yet. Time to take some more ineffectual antibiotics.
